Does Your View Of Heaven Have you Playing The Harp?

Do you have a view of heaven? What it is like? What you will do there? There seems to be a lot of weird views of heaven that aren’t even Bible related. I was fortunate to have people around me, from early childhood, who loved Jesus. Not everyone of course, but enough. I felt His love for me. I went to Sunday school and church throughout the years, but I don’t really recall anyone really talking about heaven. Sure it was mentioned now and then, mostly just that it will be wonderful and we will be with our Lord and Savior. That’s awesome, but the rest was such a mystery.

What View Of Heaven Makes Sense When Reading What God Tells Us?

A More Accurate View Of HeavenI came to a place in my nursing career and personal life that needed more detail in forming this view of heaven. Some people think, even people with theological degrees, that we will just be sitting around singing all day long or floating around on the clouds. I am guessing that wouldn’t be heaven for the people around me who had to listen to my singing. Anyway, that doesn’t even seem logical when you look around at all the wonders of the world that God created for us. Why would that no longer exist. We were all made so unique with different interests, skills and talents, I don’t think we all will be doing the same thing.

God created a beautiful garden with all sorts of vegetation and animals. He made man in His image, which allowed us the will to choose. Though we made some bad choices (and still do), we would have had a gorgeous place to live without the damage of sin. Do you think Adam and Eve were meant to just sit in their garden and play the harp? I’m not bad mouthing the harp, just saying that you probably wouldn’t want to play or listen to it all day long. It would get monotonous after a while, right? No, there was work to do. Not work that often seems like drudgery today, but work that brought us joy, that didn’t wear us out to the point of exhaustion or strife. Hard to imagine for some I bet. The point is, where that notion came from that we will just have a life of boredom playing a harp in the clouds is not from God’s word at all.

We do not have every detail spelled out for us in the Bible, but there are frequent mentions of what we might expect. I wish pastors would share this more often. Think of this world without sin, without pain and illness. Think of this world where the One who had you in mind from the beginning of time will be with you. Think of a world where you can spend time with loved ones and cherished pets with joy and laughter. Think of being able to do work that God has crafted for you from the time you spent on earth; all with excited passion. Think of a world where you can explore in safety its wonders. This view of heaven aligns more accurately with what God tells us in His word. This is the heaven and new earth that we have to look forward to.

Working as a nurse for many years, including hospice, I frequently cared for patients and families coming to grips with end of life. The perspective people had of what death meant was very variable. Those with faith, knowing that their loved one was going to heaven, had a certain peace. Of course, they were still saddened at the loss of their loved one, they were also reassured. Their view of heaven varied too, but generally, it was pretty limited. Many verbalized that they knew their loved one would be reunited with others that had gone before, but still heaven seemed to be a mystery.

An Awesome View Of Heaven Based On What We Do Know

It is a hard concept really. The body dies. Then what? Our spirit that lived within us, which is the essence of who we are, leaves the “container” we were once held in and to heaven we go. We don’t get our resurrected body immediately, but the Bible does imply that we will have a temporary body form in heaven while we wait for our resurrected body. We know it will be recognizable as the Bible clearly tells us that. Still, this can be a difficult concept on just how all this works. I guess that’s where faith comes in. We can see that God has crafted all of creation to every little amazing detail. our view of heaven

We know from His word that He loves us. From the beginning of time He has longed to fellowship with us. Knowing these things, we should breathe a sigh of relief and trust Him.

And as for our view of heaven, He knows what we love, what brings us pleasure and He prepares a place specially for us.

Having this more Biblically accurate view of heaven will bring us more comfort and anticipatory excitement of our future forever home.
