Do Animals Grieve As Humans?

Animals grieve as they have emotions just as humans do.  They may not grieve identical to a human, but interestingly, they grieve in different ways just as humans do.  I shared a few videos below to illustrate this point, but they are kind of difficult to watch.

You wonder just what the animal is thinking.  How do they put together what has happened.  They can articulate with words their grief, but they obviously know somehow that their loved one is no longer with them.

Elephants

Elephants are fascinating to me.  They seem to have more depth in their soul that I think most people give them credit for.  They can actually shed tears, bury their dead and stop eating related to deep depression over losing another elephant.

Geese

Geese commit only to one mate their whole life.  This goose cries after losing its mate.

Penguins

This is a touching video of one penguin even trying to console the other with the death of the little one.

Animals have spirits, maybe not totally the same as a humans, but they are given the “breath of life” as humans, which is their spirit, according to the Bible.  Each is individual and unique.  It is pretty amazing.
