Are There Ways We Can Be Combat Depression Without Medication?
Depression is so prevalent in our culture. What are some ways we can combat depression to make antidepressants unnecessary? It is interesting just how many people are taking antidepressants. Many people you know that you might not suspect may be taking them just to cope. Maybe it’s you.
Certainly, there are no shortage of reasons in life that can contribute to our potential for depression. Sometimes medications are necessary and I’ve certainly seen this as a nurse. It often seems though that many medical professionals are quick to answer every symptom with a medication, including depression. I am not convinced that every answer comes in pill form. That being said though, there are times when a medication can be helpful. My point is that antidepressants need to be prescribed carefully if there is a need.
I’d like to share with you an article from CBN that talks about some ways we can use to combat depression without medication.
Dutch Sheets wrote a book about some ways we can counteract our feelings of depression and I’d like to share this article about what he offers.
Don’t Let Depression Be a ‘Death Sentence’
How dangerous is depression? People who were perennially depressed saw increased health risks that were equivalent to a non-smoker taking up a pack-a-day habit, according to study published in the May 2010 issue of Atherosclerosis.
Essentially, depression is a death sentence.
“Experiencing this condition doesn’t make you bad, weak, or unspiritual,” pastor and author Dutch Sheets wrote in a Charisma Magazine op-ed.
“No one makes it through life without suffering some level of this disease. Hope deferred is the common cold of the soul, except that this virus can kill,” he said.
But Sheets says there’s hope for people struggling with this disease.
In his new book, The Power of Hope: Let God Renew Your Mind, Heal Your Heart, and Restore Your Dream, Sheets offers practical steps to help those struggling through life’s disappointments and troubles.
