To My Grandma, For Memories Sweet

I had been thinking about how grandmas and grandpas can have such a positive impact on our children. And really the children on them. I regret that there was not more involvement for my kids. There was some, but it seems we moved away too much of the time. They all missed out on what could have been. Now, I know, we can’t live in the past as that can’t be changed. We only have today to make our way. I was just thinking, then I came across this poem I had written back in 1998 when my Grandma died. I have certain memories of her that I am still grateful for even 18 years later.

    Grandma, For Memories Sweet

To my Grandma

for memories sweet

for out pleasant walks

to the store

your words full of wisdom

and so much more

To my Grandma

for memories sweet

for times I slept over

at your house

Bible stories you read to me

my Savior, I learned about

To my Grandma

for memories sweet

for times I cherish

as you know

they helped bring salvation

to my longing soul

To my Grandma

for memories sweet

for now is your time

your walk is complete

your cares all are placed

at our Savior’s feet

Don’t underestimate the power of grandparents. They can be a blessing to kids, but also the other way around. Even if you don’t live in close proximity, you may be able to find ways that they can share in eachother’s lives.

I wonder if my grandma knows that I am still so grateful for those sweet memories of our time together. I wonder who she is blessing right now and just what is she doing in heaven today.
