Don’t Let The Wrongs That People Do To You Take Away Your Life

It is easy for me to say to people, especially young people, not to let wrongs that people do to you fester in your spirit, but just let them roll off. Keep it in a healthy perspective and move on. Don’t let the pain that they have inflicted on you affect your whole life moving forward.

Really, it is not easy for me to say this, but it is true. It is hard not to be hurt by actions and words when they come from people we care about. You recall that old rhyme parents used to tell their kids.  Sticks and stones may break your bones, but names will never hurt you. Remember that? The fact is that names and words do hurt. And emotional pain can be as difficult, if not more so, than physical pain. Look at the statistics of our society of increasing depression and anxiety. Life can be a rough go in many ways.

In our world, many people don’t have the integrity, decency or maturity to even try to do what is right. Many don’t even try to be loyal to someone who they care about. Many are just manipulative and self serving. Many a marriage falters because of these things. And so many don’t even care who they leave in their path of deceit and destruction.

While looking for something else, I came across this song and wept. Brad Paisley’s Whiskey Lullaby. How many people let something or someone in their past affect their future even to the point of death? How many allow that hurt and deception of what may have happened in their past convince them there is not a life ahead?

Even the strongest of souls can take such things to heart and let it cloud their good sense. And in a moment, their life on this current earth is done. And in their wake are all those people who love them who are left to somehow make sense of such a senseless act. Such emotional anguish that that must have preceded such a thing and the emotional anguish in the aftermath.

We cannot live in the past. Yes, the past hurts and it certainly can affect our future in various ways, but hold onto whatever you can find that is good and don’t let wrongs done to you in the past make you feel like you cannot have a future. Even if that future is not what you had envisioned, it doesn’t mean it can’t be worthwhile.

There will always be people who hurt others, some will be sorry and try to make amends, but others just won’t. We can’t control that, only ourselves. Don’t give up looking for positive ways to heal your life and move on. I have had my share of times in my life when I just didn’t know if I could go on. Often it is those brief moments of utter despair that can be the most dangerous. Those moments pass, never act in those moments, but ride them through.

God provided us a Savior because He wants to be with us forever in a better world. The stage is set for our Savior to return for us. For now, let us hold on and do the best we can to live for Him.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade – kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 1Peter 1:3-5
